"We need to set guardrails so that AI serves people."

AI expert Alois Krtil advocates for more self-regulation by companies dealing with artificial intelligence and is implementing a code of conduct at PINKTUM. The digital soft skill development company is one of the pioneers in the self-regulated handling of AI.

“AI is penetrating our everyday lives at breakneck speed, in some cases without people being aware of it and without the data being used in a legally compliant manner. This uncontrolled and undirected spread is also risky for companies,” says Alois Krtil, one of the leading experts and lecturers in the field of artificial intelligence. Many developers would like to see rules in place so that the powerful leverage AI offers can be used in a secure manner and at the same time keep pace with international competition: "We need to set guardrails so that AI serves people, and we can responsibly take advantage of the opportunities offered by this key technology," Krtil explains, “Without reliability in terms of ethics, governance, transparency, data security and robustness of the systems, AI would often remain stuck in prototype status, or would not even be considered as a solutional approach in the first place.”

PINKTUM among the pioneers of voluntary commitment

Even before the AI EU Regulation is due to go into effect in Europe, by 2026 at the latest, PINKTUM’s expert recommends that organizations that want to expand their services with the help of AI make a voluntary commitment. "Especially among digital companies with initial credentials in the development and use of AI, there are pioneers," he said. Among them is PINKTUM, where Krtil was appointed Chief Technology Officer in April 2023.

As the first company in digital workforce development, PINKTUM has published a Code of Conduct that includes ten points. The first point is "Security" giving the highest priority to data protection, which is why every application goes through a risk analysis. "Transparency" follows the principle that machine processes must be traceable. "Fairness" means that AI models do not provide discriminatory results. Under "Data Economy," PINKTUM commits to using personal data only when it is at the service of learners. Not everything that can be done technologically is necessary and should be done. (More here)

"Rules and guardrails for AI must become part of the culture. That is why we developed the Code of Conduct with a cross-divisional group of employees and are making it part of our internal training and development in all divisions,” said Joachim Pawlik, CEO of PINKTUM. “Everyone will be able to review and critically challenge our commitment. This will be an ongoing process."
